The Danger of New Tires on High-Performance Motorcycle Race Bikes

If you own a race bike you need to be very careful with your bike when you put on a new set of tires. It pays to ride them and wear them in before you get too nuts and by wearing them in, I mean the sides too.

In other words you need to do some low speed turns with the bike low to the ground a scraping the pegs before you go out and burn thru the canyon at race speeds or do any high speed turns on the street. Why? Well because new tires do not grip as well and a little bit of oil on the ground, some highway markings or debris on the canyon road can cause you to lose control.

Long Distance Night Motorcycle Riding and Staying Warm

Anyone who has ridden long-distance on a motorcycle often knows that sometimes you get an unexpected weather change and this can cause issues. Also getting caught after dark a couple of hundred miles from home with a mountain range to cross when the temps are getting below 40 can also be an issue; remember you are adding the chill factor simply by moving forward.

When it gets into the 20s or 30s things get a little more serious and you feel like you are riding thru a walk in freezer; Popsicle city no doubt? Of course as it cools you know that there are issues with black ice, bridges icing over and other weather related conditions, which if you are not careful will turn your little long-distance ride into a long-distance nightmare.

Motorcycle Canyon Riding; High Speed Turns with Rocks in the Road

As motorcycle street performance bike riders get more proficient they find them selves searching out more and more challenging highways to ride on. In fact eventually they find two or three and really like to let it all hang out and test their skills. As a young man living close to the Malibu Hills in California, I found myself bonsai?ing thru the canyons about three times a week. Eventually I met others doing the same. Being self-employed like a number of the high-performance riders, sometimes I would ride mid-week, evenings too, when there were little or no other cars on the road.
